Douglas Jan Burgess II is an Indigenous artist (Haida, Dakota, Grand Ronde) and his aesthetic is largely inspired by the Haida art that surrounded him growing up in Hydaburg, Alaska. Burgess has studied at Hilltop Artists, Pilchuck glass school and the Corning Museum of glass, and has shown his work in the Museum of glass,Tacoma art museum and Pilchuck glass school. Burgess has had residencies at the museum of glass and Pilchuck glass school.
